TRADE MARKS. PROTECT BRANDS, IDENTITY & LOGOS

The IPONZ Trade Mark Classification Database will help you classify the goods and services for which you intend to use your trade mark.

The terms shown in the database are considered correct for the purposes of classification by the Commissioner under the Trade Marks Act 2002 (for applications filed after 1 January 2007). Pursuant to section 31(2) of the Act, IPONZ will accept the terms shown in this database as descriptions in specifications when making your trade mark application.

A search can be made for words and/or a class number using the options shown below.
Class Number: Select the class number from the drop-down list for the class of goods and/or services in which you wish to register your trade mark, or leave it as 'All' to search for all classes.

Search Words: Enter the word(s) that must appear in the classification descriptions in the field to search for the selected class or 'All' classes.

A Summary of the search result(s) screen will be shown. The descriptions are listed alphabetically. You can use the Ctrl-F function to find a term within the search results.

  • To include plurals in the search for example ‘babies’ and ‘baby’, enter the stem: ‘bab’.
  • Check spelling before submitting the search as the complete word entered will be searched.
